About Bomun Lake

A large man-made lake in the Bomun Tourist Complex east of the old town, ringed by a walking and cycling path of about 8km. In early April the path is lined with cherry blossoms, and it's pleasant at sunset year-round. Resort hotels, Gyeongju Expo Park and the East Palace Garden are nearby — rent a bike to loop the lake.

Gyeongju East Palace Garden (Donggungwon)

A modern botanical garden and bird park opened in 2013 near Bomun Lake, inspired by Silla's royal Donggung palace and Wolji pond, home to Korea's first recorded zoo and garden. Its glasshouses are shaped like Silla-era halls and filled with tropical and medicinal plants. A good rainy-day stop combined with a walk around the lake.
