Port-au-Prince's iconic iron market, with its red-and-green iron halls and minaret-like towers, rebuilt after the 2010 earthquake, where vendors sold produce, crafts, art and spices. It's historically one of the city's great sights, but it sits in the downtown area worst affected by violence. Governments including the US and UK advise against all travel to Haiti, and much of Port-au-Prince is controlled by armed gangs — don't visit independently, and check current advisories.
