One of the great European coffeehouses — a vaulted marble hall in the Palais Ferstel where Freud, Hitler, Lenin, and Trotsky all took their morning papers. The Melange (Viennese coffee with milk foam) and flaky Apfelstrudel are both outstanding. Touristy but absolutely worth it.

The most legendary Viennese coffeehouse — an unchanged 1930s interior where Hundertwasser, Kokoschka, and every significant Viennese artist of the 20th century sat. The Buchteln (sweet dumplings served only after 10pm) are the dessert Vienna is most sentimental about.
