About Montevideo for Solo Travelers
South America's most livable capital — a 22km waterfront promenade, extraordinary Sunday asado culture, and one of the continent's safest and most relaxed urban environments for solo exploration.
Solo Travel Tips· Solo Friendly
Montevideo is South America's most livable and solo-friendly capital — the 22km Rambla waterfront walk is one of the continent's great solo strolls, the Ciudad Vieja is compact and walkable, and the Sunday Mercado del Puerto (where gauchos grill enormous asados over open fires) is one of Uruguay's most social cultural experiences. Very safe, English is spoken widely, and the café culture is excellent.
