Novi Sad is Serbia's second city and home to the EXIT music festival (July) — one of Europe's greatest music festivals held inside a riverside fortress, extremely solo-friendly as everyone is there to meet people. Outside festival time, Novi Sad is a beautiful, relaxed, and walkable city with the Petrovaradin Fortress (where EXIT is held) offering superb solo views over the Danube. Very affordable and increasingly on the traveler circuit.
