About Tulum for Solo Travelers

Clifftop Maya ruins above a turquoise Caribbean sea, cenote swimming in underground rivers, and a boho wellness community that makes Tulum one of Mexico's most naturally social solo destinations.

Solo Travel Tips· Solo Friendly

Tulum is one of Mexico's most social solo destinations — the wellness and digital nomad community makes coworking spaces and yoga classes natural icebreakers. The beach road stretches south from the Maya ruins and is dotted with cenotes for solo swimming. Rent a bike or scooter for the beach road. The town (pueblo) is more affordable than the beach zone. Cenote swimming is Tulum's unmissable solo experience.

A walled Maya city perched on cliffs above the Caribbean, one of the last to be built and occupied by the Maya, with the El Castillo temple overlooking a small beach. It's compact and very popular, so arrive at opening time before the heat and the tour buses. Bring water and a hat — there's little shade.
