Koh Tao is one of the world's best and most affordable places to get PADI certified — the dive school social scene is extraordinarily welcoming to solo travelers, with communal dinners, group dives, and dive school bars creating a naturally social community. The island is small enough to walk or scooter everywhere. Snorkeling off Sairee Beach is excellent for non-divers. The sunset from Koh Nang Yuan viewpoint (accessible by boat) is extraordinary.

HTMS Sattakut Wreck Dive

Japanese Garden Dive Site Koh Tao

The most beautiful and accessible shallow reef in the Gulf of Thailand - an enormous coral garden between Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan with staghorn corals, brain corals, and remarkable marine life at depths of 4-14 meters. Japanese Garden is consistently ranked among the top snorkeling and beginner dive sites in all of Southeast Asia.

Koh Nang Yuan Island Koh Tao

Three tiny islands connected by sand bars just 500m from Koh Tao's northwest coast, with the most spectacular viewpoint in the Gulf of Thailand from the rocky summit (30-minute climb). The dive sites around Nang Yuan including Japanese Gardens coral reef are among the best beginner dives in Southeast Asia.

Shark Bay (Thian Og Bay) Koh Tao
