About Chiang Mai for Solo Travelers
A northern Thai city of 300 temples, world-class cooking classes, and mountain elephant sanctuaries — solo travelers find Chiang Mai Southeast Asia's most complete destination, where culture, nature, food, and digital nomad infrastructure all converge.
Solo Travel Tips· Solo Friendly
Chiang Mai is arguably Southeast Asia's best solo traveler city — the Sunday Walking Street market, the Thai cooking class scene (the best icebreaker activity in Asia), the coworking spaces in Nimman Road, and the surrounding mountains with Doi Inthanon and the hill tribe villages make it extraordinary. The elephant sanctuaries (ethical ones — avoid riding) are outstanding half-day experiences that group solo travelers. Very affordable, very English-friendly.
