Chiang Mai's best walking street market — Wualai Road comes alive every Sunday evening when the entire street becomes a pedestrianised market of northern Thai crafts, silverwork (the street is the historic silver-smithing quarter), handmade fabrics, street food, and live folk music. More local, more atmospheric, and less touristy than the Saturday market. Essential solo evening.

Every Saturday evening hundreds of vendors sell handmade crafts, clothing, art, food, and trinkets. The gate and ancient moat provide a dramatic backdrop. Excellent street food stalls throughout. The best free evening activity in northern Thailand.

The most photographed market in Chiang Mai — a predawn wholesale flower market next to the Ping River, where mountains of tropical blooms, garlands, lotus flowers, and orchids are traded every morning from 3am. The colours and scents at sunrise are extraordinary. Also sells fresh produce, hill tribe vegetables, and local Thai sweets. Come before 6am for the best experience.
